Séoul : avantages et inconvénients / Seoul : pros and cons

Séoul est une ville que j’apprécie en général, le genre de ville où je vais habiter dans le futur certainement. Évidemment, elle n’est pas parfaite et voici un palmarès des avantages et des inconvénients de la capitale coréenne :

Avantage :

• Excellent système de transport en commun
• La ville est peu dispendieuse pour une capitale
• La ville recycle et composte, une ville verte qui est bien entretenu et propre
• Plusieurs beaux points de vue
• C'est une ville très sécuritaire

Le métro est vraiment plaisant et facile à utiliser, ce n’est pas cher pour le transport, les restaurants, le magasinage, etc. Même dans les tours d’habitations, on recycle et composte, on peut avoir des amendes si on ne le fait pas. Du fait que Séoul est dans une vallée entourée de montagnes, il y a plusieurs beaux points de vue  justement de montage, on peut facilement y accéder même via le métro.

C'est vraiment sécuritaire, j'ai jamais en aucun moment eu peur pour ma sécurité et je n'ai aucun problème à laisser mon laptop ou mon téléphone sans surveillance le temps d'acheter à manger ou d'aller au toilette. Je pense que je pourrais même laisser mon passeport sans surveillance et personne ne le volerait! Mais bon, je vais pas essayer... :)

Sinon je ce que j’aime également de Séoul c’est une ville avec un long passé. Par exemple, du point de vue, on peut voir des artères aussi grosses que des autoroutes en plein milieu de la ville et on peut aussi voir des ruelles étroites qui devaient être très utile il y a 600 ans. Bref, un beau mélange entre modernité et tradition.

Désavantage :

• Parfois difficile de s’y retrouver, même pour une personne locale
• Les scooters
• Les automobilistes

Comment la ville a été construite (et reconstruite après la guerre), les adresses  ont été attribué selon la date de construction et non selon le lieu géographique. Bref, le 3760 peut être à côté du 304. Les scooters ne sont pas considérés comme des automobilistes et pas comme piétons non plus. Ils ont les forces des deux et les faiblesses d’aucune. Ils peuvent aller partout : les rues, les trottoirs, les passages pour piétons, contourner les feux rouges, etc. Mon Lonely Planet m’avait prévenu mais j’ai aussi remarqué que je ne peux pas vraiment faire confiance automobilistes. Ils brulent les feux rouges, ils se stationnent n’importe où (les scooters aussi) et je ne suis jamais sûr s’ils vont s’arrêter ou s’ils vont de heurter.

So far, Seoul is a city that I enjoy, this is the kind of city that I’ll live in the future. Obviously, she is not perfect and here is a little list of the pros and cons of the Korean capital:

Pros :

• Excellent public transport system
• The city is cheap for a capital
• The city recycle and compost, a green and clean city
• A lot of nice landscapes
• A very safe city

The subway is very easy to use and I enjoy using it every day. This is very cheap for the transport, the restaurants, the shopping, etc. Even in the apartment’s tours, we recycle and compost, we can get a ticket if we don’t do it. As Seoul is in a valley surround by moutains, there is a lot of nice landscape of obviously mountains and we can easily get there for hiking by the subway.


Seoul is actually very safe, I never felt in danger at any moment and I have no doubt that if I left y laptop or my phone alone for going to bathroom or buy food, I will found them back where I left them. I think I could even left my passport and it would be at the same place when I would be back. But, I will not try this one... :)

One other thing that I love of Seoul is that is a city with a past. For example, on a same point of view, we can see roads as large as highway in the center of the city and we can also see narrow alley who were probably very useful 600 years ago. A nice mix between modernity and tradition.

Cons:

•  Difficult to get direction and can be lost easily
• The scooters
• The automobiles

The way the city was built (and rebuilt after the war), les address were given according to the date of construction and not according the geographic location. So the 3567 and the 345 could be in side by side. The scooters are not considering like automobiles and not as walkers neither. They got the strengths of both and the no of their weaknesses. They can go everywhere: the road, on the sidewalk, a little bit more and they could take the subway! My Lonely Planet prevents me of that but I notice that I can’t trust the automobiles. They burn the red light, they park everywhere (the scooter also) and I am not sure if they gonna hit me or not.
