A Sherbrooke Machine in Seoul: Un rêve qui devient réalité / A dream come true

Voici un post sur l'accomplissement d'un rêve.

Mise en contexte : Comme tout bon "IT guy" qui se respecte, j'aime bien les jeux vidéos en particulier Starcraft, jeu auquel je j'ai passé d'incalculable heures à jouer. Il se trouve qu'en Corée, il y a ce qu'on appelle le e-sport (electronic sport) qui sont en fait des compétitions de jeux vidéos (notamment Starcraft). Les joueurs sont des professionnels qui gagnent leur vies à jouer à Starcraft de façon compétitive, ils peuvent parfois gagner des salaires plus qu'intéressant! De plus, ces gars là sont traités comme des stars et ont plusieurs fans (beaucoup de filles en fait).

Bref, des gars qui joue a Starcraft toute la journée et qui sont adulés par des hordes de coréennes en délire... Mais c'est merveilleux!!!

Depuis quelques années, je regarde via le web des parties et depuis le premier jour, j'ai toujours voulu assister à un de ces évènements "live" (et télévisé) où l'énergie de la foule est électrisante.

Bref, mardi soir, je suis allé au e-sport stadium pour voir une compétition de la "Starcraft Proleague" (Starcraft- Brood War), j'ai même rencontrer un autre Canadien de Calgary venu lui aussi assiter au match. Il nous ont présenté à la caméra (on était les seuls étrangers), bref on a passé à la télé. À la fin, une journaliste a même voulu nous interviewer! Bon, je ne pense pas que c'est un journal important mais quand même; j'ai eu mes 15 minutes de gloire!

Ce moment n'ayant pas assouvi ma soif de Starcraft, je suis allé à un autre évènement le mercredi soir soir soit la GSL (Global Starcraft II League) qui est la ligue que je suis via internet quand je suis au Canada. Grâce à mes "talents" en dessin, on m'a présenter à l'écran et même les commentateurs coréens ont dit que le Canada était représenté (voir la photo en bas). J'ai vraiment apprécié: des bonnes parties, un revirement de situation innatendu (QUOI#!?! IM_Mvp descend en code A!!), de la pizza gratuite et un réseau Wi-Fi.

Après la partie, j'ai pu rencontrer les deux commentateurs anglophones qui permettent aux étrangers comme moi de comprendre qu'est ce qui se passe durant les parties. Un autre beau moment.

Bref, réaliser un rêve : check!

This is a post about the realization of a dream...

To put you in context, as a good IT guy, I love video game especially Starcraft, a game that I played so many hours! In Korea, they got what we call e-sport (electronic sport) which is video game competitionS (as Starcraft) between professional players or pro-gamers. Those persons (moslty guys) could got a huge amount of money if they are good. Moreover, they got many fans (mostly girls actually) who cheer for them during game.

So, guy who play Starcraft all day long AND are adulate by horde of screaming Koreans girls? THIS IS WONDERFUL!

Since a couple of years, I used to watch those kind of game on the web and I always wanted to attempt one of these live-broadcast events where the crowd got some amazing spirit!

So on Tuesday, I went to the e-sport Stadium to attempt the Starcraft Proleague. I met another Canadian from Calgary who also came for the game. We were presented on the screen (we were the only foreigners) so I guest we passed on TV! At the end, there was that journalist who interviewed us, I'm not sure she's working for a big newspaper but I got my 15 minutes of glory!

On Wednesday, I was still thirsty for Starcraft so I went to the GSL (Global Starcraft II League) which is the league that I follow on the web when I'm home. Due to my drawing "talents", I passed on TV and even the Korean commentators spoke about the Canadian presence in the audience (See the picture below). I really enjoyed the night : good games, an impossible turnover (WHAT!?! IM_Mvp downgrade to code A!?!), free pizza and free Wi-Fi.

After the game, I also had the chance to met the anglophone commentator who allow foreigners like me to understand what happening during the game. Another good moment.

So, dream come true: check!
